Val Letenyei has had a life-long love of music and has 17 years of teaching experience.  She opened MusicEveryday! in May of 2015 after moving back to her home state of Michigan and has enjoyed building a musical community of excellent teachers and amazing students!

Mary Pryer
Lead Guitar Instructor

Mary Pryer is an experienced musician who has been playing guitar for almost ten years and has been teaching at MusicEveryday! since 2016.  She received her Bachelors of Music from Grace Bible College where she received private lessons in guitar and vocals.  While in college she worked for Grace Bible College as the Music Theory Assistant. Mary is presently singing and playing for the duo Pryer Times and also writes original material for them. She plays a variety of styles including folk, contemporary Christian, bluegrass, country, and more.  Mary is passionate about helping her students at MusicEveryday! reach their goals in music by working with each student’s learning style.

Shar Boerma
Lead Vocal Instructor & Piano Instructor

Shar Boerema has been teaching at MusicEveryday! since 2016.  She grew up in Holland, where she began singing publicly at age three, and started piano lessons at seven. She enjoyed wonderful years of music education and touring experiences, receiving years of private lessons in voice, piano, and organ with great teachers, including Hope & Calvin College faculty.  She brings great classical training to the studio, but uses many types of music genre with her students.

Shar recorded two cds, writing and playing her own arrangements of sacred music, from her church
traditions and more contemporary worship as well as her own original works.
Shar is married to Ed Boerema, and they have five grown children, one son-in-law (a public safety officer in Grand Haven), and 2 grandchildren. She loves writing and has recently published a book about life with their oldest son, entitled "Silent Aspirations, A Nonverbal Son, His Art, His Mother’s Faith and Family’s Bond".

Teresa Bellamy
Lead Strings Instructor

Teresa Bellamy received a Bachelor of Arts in Violin Performance from the University of Akron and a Master of Music in Violin Performance from Bowling Green State University. Passionate about contemporary music and working directly with today’s composers, she has performed regularly with the VIVE! Ensemble, a Bowling Green based ensemble which focuses on contemporary music, and the Bowling Green State University New Music Ensemble. Her love of chamber music has led to her involvement in many small ensembles with varying instrumentation. In her ten years of teaching experience, she has taught private lessons to violin and viola students of all ages and experience levels. She has also coached chamber ensembles as well as directed workshops for school string programs.  Teresa is very excited to be back in her home state of Michigan to teach and to play with the Holland Symphony Orchestra and West Michigan Symphony.

Justin Merriman
Guitar Instructor

Justin Merriman has been teaching guitar, ukulele & banjo at MusicEveryday! since 2015.  He will be a graduate of Hope College as of May 5, 2019, where he has was awarded both a viola and banjo performance scholarship and minored in music. Justin is an experienced and versatile musician who has been playing since he was in the 4th grade, and has been a member of Gotak, a fiddle/Celtic performance group from Grand Haven, as well as a member of the Mona Shores Fiddlers. He has been playing gigs and performing for audiences since he was in 6th grade, where he first played in the Holland Street Performer Series. He also was the principle violist for Grand Haven High School’s top orchestra, and has been a member of several different string quartets. With those quartets he has been very successful and has earned straight 1’s at both district and state festival for every year of his middle/high school career. At Hope, Justin was a member of several bluegrass bands and was able to further pursue his musical interests, specifically with banjo and guitar. He is a private accounting and business double major who loves to share his passion for music with his students in his free time.

Max Lerman
Guitar Instructor

Max Lerman is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where he earned a B.A. Equivalency Degree in Music Therapy as well as in Jazz Studies, with an emphasis on Guitar Performance.  Max Lerman has over 20 years experience in playing the guitar, and is also proficient at the banjo, piano, and ukulele.  Max is originally from Wilmette, Illinois. As a music therapist, Max has had experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, older adults w/ dementia, and people who are going through the hardships of a terminal illness. Max has been a member of the professional groups Justice Prevails and Groove Witness for over 8 years as their lead guitarist, songwriter, and composer on various repertoire with styles ranging from funk to jazz fusion and R&B. When Max is not doing music, he enjoys playing guitar, tennis, running, cooking healthy nutritious meals, and spending time with his wife.

Phil LaSpina
Guitar Instructor

Philip LaSpina has spent several years touring the United States with many established bands and his 30+ years of experience includes teaching music, recording albums and performing in live shows. 

Born in Chicago, Illinois then moving to Michigan as a young teen, Philip started his musical journey at the age of six in Chicago taking classical guitar and voice instruction.  His passion for music grew quickly as Philip started writing his own music at an early age. Philip went on to start his first band his freshman year of high school.  At this point Philip knew he wanted to make music his career. As a young singer-song writer Philip also learned drums, bass and some piano to help him create the music he heard in his head.  His passion for guitar and singing gained him attention from local established acts. Philip spent his high school years recording, performing and writing songs for himself and others.  Upon graduation, Philip’s love for music took him to the big stage. On his time off, he spent most of it giving lessons to aspiring students of all ages including adults.  Philip's continuing mission is to inspire others through his love and passion for music and paying it forward.

Keith Van Dyke
Percussion & Low Brass Instructor

Keith van Dyke majored in Music at Western Michigan University, obtaining a degree in Music Therapy and later a Masters Degree in Social Work.  Keith worked in behavioral health system for 40 yrs until retirement in 2018.

Keith was raised here in Spring Lake in a family of musicians.  His father was a band director who played woodwinds and his mother was a piano teacher who gave lessons from home.  Keith started piano lessons at age 5 and played trombone until 9th grade then switched to baritone/euphonium.  His performance experience includes playing in rock and country bands, jazz and church ensembles.   He values each individual's learning style and strives to adapt a method appropriate for each student.  He also appreciates finding new ways to build inspiration to motivate students to maximize their practice time.

Drew Matz
Percussion Instructor

Drew Matz has been drumming for 9 years and will soon graduate from Grand Haven High School. He has been a member of the GHHS Jazz Band & Marching Band, and has played drums for his church.  Drew has always had a dream to teach drums and now enjoys teaching drum students at MusicEveryday!

Stephanie Zurn
Piano Instructor

Stephanie Zurn is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she taught piano lessons for several years.  She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology.  She has over 30 years of combined experience in the fields of child care and social work.  Stephanie has recently joined the MusicEveryday! team and is currently working on her Kindermusik training.  She attributes her love of music to her parents, particularly her mother, who was always playing music and or singing around the house. In addition, she cites the incorporation of her family's player piano to her love of music. As a child, many a day was spent singing and dancing to player piano rolls. Stephanie hopes to share her love of music, and specifically the piano with her students at Music Everyday. 

Ashley Lomasney
Kindermusik Educator

Ashley Lomasney earned a Bachelor in Music Education at Calvin College. While attending college, she worked as Director’s Assistant for the Grand Rapids Symphony Prelude Youth Chorus.  She was a teacher's aide at Breton Downs Elementary, and completed her student-teaching at East Oakview Elementary. She has served as a substitute for homeschool music classes and at Ada Christian School and Hudsonville Christian School.  

​According to her mother, Miss Ashley sang from the time she was a baby. Miss Ashley remembers the music played and sung in her childhood home, and the singing in church and school. She found her love for children through babysitting and nannying during high school and college, and decided to pursue a career in teaching music to children.

As a Licensed Kindermusik Educator, Miss Ashley provides a comfortable environment for you and your child to strengthen your bond, and begin your child’s journey toward a lifelong love of music and learning.

Jennifer Verwey
Administrative Assistant

Jennifer Verwey started at MusicEveryday! as a vocal student in January 2017 and after experiencing the welcoming environment and caring attention of the teachers, offered to volunteer with fundraisers which would benefit all of the students.  Soon, it was clear that she was a good fit for a bigger need, helping Director/Teacher Val Letenyei with the administrative tasks which were growing as the studio went from 25 - 175 students!  Jennifer greets our afternoon and evening students with a warm and welcoming smile and helps keep the teachers on schedule during our busy after-school hours.  Jennifer also helps with schedule changes and special event preparation along with many other administrative duties.  All of the teachers and especially Val appreciate her dedication and the fun-loving spirit she brings to the studio each day!
